Houston Texans President Jamey Rootes has Passed Away

Jamey Rootes, the first team president in Houston Texans history, has passed away. Melissa Wildgen Rootes, his wife, announced the news on Facebook on Monday. He was 56.

The post stated, "Our family is heartbroken to confirm that Jamey Rootes passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2022 in Houston, Texas, after a battle with mental health issues."

"Jamey, who retired from his position as president of the Houston Texans in 2021, was best known for his devotion to his family and friends.

Bob McNair, the former owner and founder of Texas, hired Rootes, who worked for the club for two years, managing its business operations.

"We are heartbroken to learn of the death of former Houston Texans President Jamey Rootes," the Texans said in a statement. 

Jamey led our business operations for two decades with an unwavering dedication to Houston and the Houston Texans.

Jamey was a devoted Houstonian who treasured his home and made a significant impact on many people's lives through his work in business, academia, and philanthropy."
